Washington and Lee University, May 2017, USA

From May 3rd - 6th geology students of the Washington and Lee Unversity, USA, was here in Breiðdalsvík and used the knowledge of the staff and the facilitiesof Breiðdalssetur. The university donated Breiðdalssetur two microscope that work very well. We thank prófessor David Harbor kindly for that!!!

Dr. David H. Blake, collaborator Walker's

The geologist Dr. David Henry Blake, collaborator of George P.L. Walker passed away on 10th June 2014 in Australia. To honour him and his contribution to the research of the Geology of Eastern Iceland, the flags at Breiðdalssetur were put on half-mast the day before his funeral, 16th of June. We like to express our condolences to his family.

Dr. Ian Gibson in Breiðdalsvík

The geologist Ian Gibson is currently in Breiðdalsvík. gIBSONIan was one of the first students of G.P.L. Walkers and wrote his Phd thesis about the Reyðarfjörður volcano 1959-62, see below.

This is the 3. time that Ian is visiting Breiðdalssetur and his contribution was very important for the geology center.

These days he is working on organizing and sorting the huge amount of documents and material that the Walker's wife donated to Breiðdalssetur after his dead.

Breiðdalssetur and the students from the University of Edinburgh (pictures of the field course 2010), who are taught geology at Breiðdalssetur these days as well, are honoured and thankful to have Ian Gibson in Breiðdalsvík.

First geology field course at Breiðdalssetur from University of Edinburgh

In August 2009 the first field course from an univeristy is hold at Breiðdalssetur. The initiator is Dr. Thor Thordarson, former student of GPL Walker in Hawaii, now lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. With them is Dr. Ian Gibson, one of the first students of  Walker. Theses days his is sorting the documents and helpint setting up Walker's archive (picture below).
